Whether you’re just discovering Morzine and the Portes du Soleil for the first time, or you’ve holidayed in the area before, here at Chalet Beatrice we’re sure we can help you plan the perfect mountain holiday, summer or winter.
Morzine is one part traditional Savoyarde farming town with loads of charm and character, and one part modern ski resort with fantastic holiday facilities. This combination of old and new has resulted in a truly unique base from which you can enjoy the mountains.
Sitting at the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski area, it’s easy to access the high altitude, snow-sure resort of Avoriaz. From Avoriaz, all roads lead into the French and Swiss resorts of Chatel, Champery, Torgon and Morgins, to name just a few. In the other direction, you’ll find the mellow blues and challenging reds of Les Gets and Mont Chery. There are 650km of piste in the Portes du Soleil and it’s very possible to ski for six days and never visit the same run twice! View our Portes du Soleil piste map to help you get your bearings.
Morzine rests at an altitude of 900m and benefits from being located mid-way between Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva. There’s a scientifically proven micro-climate over Morzine which brings a lot of sunshine and a lot of snow during the course of the winter season. And whilst the resort is popular with beginner skiers and snowboarders, there’s plenty to keep off-piste enthusiasts and daredevils happy too.
Around Chalet Beatrice
We’re tucked away just a few hundred metres from the village centre in Montriond. Just two minutes on foot will bring you to the village centre, with it’s huge ancient church, ski hire shop, restaurants and friendly local bar. The free ski bus stop is also located in the centre of the village, giving you easy access to the centre of Morzine in one direction (5 minutes) and the speedy ski lifts of Ardent and Avoriaz in the other (6 minutes). Although ski ski bus is free and very regular, we offer our guests private shuttle services to and from the local ski lifts each day.
Walking to the centre of Morzine from Chalet Beatrice takes around 20-25 minutes, or you can catch the free ski bus from just across the road. In the centre of the resort you’ll find lots of family friendly facilities, such as the indoor swimming complex and an indoor ice rink too. Our local hockey club HCMAG ‘The Penguins’ play in the French premier ice hockey league and home matches from their base at the Skoda Arena are a really fun night out. Morzine also has a great selection of bars; from terrace trembling apres parties to more sedate cocktail and wine bars, there’s something to suit all tastes.
The Portes du Soleil
With 650km of lift linked pistes, the Portes du Soleil lays claim to the title ‘worlds largest ski area’. While the quantity of pistes is certainly there for all to enjoy, we love the Portes du Soleil because of its quality too. Our neighbour Avoriaz is regular ranked ‘snowiest ski resort in France’ and it’s often said that if you can’t ski in Avoriaz, you can’t ski in the Alps. The ski season in the Portes du Soleil starts in mid-December and finishes at the end of April.
